Lalalala! I'm still here!
Sorry about last week! So the week before last week . . . I am going to name it The Behng Week. I spent half the week sick and drowsy but no worries now! Last Thursday was Temple Day so I was in this nice coffee shop/internet cafe place instead of that other gaming room. I was writing this email when this guy named Bob invited me and Sister Thompson to join this Bible study. When we heard, we're like, "Yaya! Missionary opp!" We're so surprised because normally, people avoid us. Bob is from somewhere in the U.S. and he also had a friend with him named Ryan from Hong Kong. Bob later noticed another man named David listening nearby so Bob invited him over too. David turned out to be from Utah and Hawaii (interesting because he is polynesian-looking with blue eyes) and has been living in mainland China for the past seven years. It was a miracle because it turned out that David was only going to be in Hong Kong for the day to get some visa, and he was wondering where to go to church. It sounds like he's been a little inactive so we're so happy to find him! So anyway, we were going to come back to do emails but then there wasn't time. :( Ehehehe . . . so sorry!
Halloween was kind of unfortunate/funny because both Sister Thompson and I were sick. We were quite the pair because she'd feel super cold and I'd feel super hot! We literally walked around like zombies. Nevertheless, we continued on finding people in parks and teaching the gospel because it's the best news in the world! Still good when croaked out of a sore throat! That day, we also went less-active-member finding. We walked one hour straight in the blazing sun, got all sunburned, only to find that the address didn't exist haha! I feel like such a wimp because at the time, I felt like it was a hard thing to do but then I thought of the pioneers and their handcarts etc., etc. and then felt better. So, in the end, it's all good!
Another miracle . . . last Sunday, Sister Thompson charmed these dogs from eating us alive! We were less-active finding when we came across two ferocious dogs blocking the road. They were sleeping at first so we thought we could tip-toe past but then they started yelping up a storm. We could have turned around to go another way, but that would have taken forever! We decided to say a prayer, and Sister Thompson got this brillant idea to start crooning to them. Hahaha it was the funniest and scariest thing at the same time to follow behind her as she sang nice things to the dogs (like please don't eat us etc.) and walked past them! They just got up without a fuss and sat down on a side path to let us path. Phew! But then we walked as fast as we could because I thought they might change their minds and go after us LOL! Heavenly Father is so awesome! There are a TON of dogs in the boonies.
Last Monday, I went on another 24-hour companion exchange. This time, I got sent to Tuen Mun to be with Sister Reed, who is Sister Bostwick's trainer. It was so much fun! We went finding and lost-sheep finding (looking members the ward has lost track of) all afternoon. It's so great because we contacted everyone we could on the street, and we took EVERY opportunity to talk to people! It feels so good and at the end of the day, I can always tell when the Lord is pleased with what I have done. It was great to be with another companion because then I could see how I've progressed in the 2.5 months that I've been in HK. Even though my Canto is still very VERY interesting right now, I can now contact people on the street on my own, bear my testimony, invite to do commitments, and teach. Yay! I love it!
We are on the search always for more investigators. Ours are a little slow-going right now, especially the older investigators. We have some do-or-die lessons coming up. I am so grateful for member referrals because those are the only investigators who actually progress and they progress FAST! We have two member referrals named Carmen and Clarabelle who are both around 20 years old. They are so open minded, love learning, and come to church! Even at the most boring church activity (like the 2.5 hour stake skit night), they find the positive and still come back. Horray!
I met with President Van Dam yesterday for an interview. He always asks how I'm doing and if there's anything he can do for me. I love it cause then I can ask him questions! This move, we're focusing on Christlike attributes. I'm working on charity and love. Sister Thompson and I talk about this a lot because sometimes, it's hard to love our investigators! Especially the cranky, old, and sick ones! We know that the more we serve them, the more our love for them will grow. Love is an interesting thing because people feel it in many different ways. I've decided that in order to love like Christ does, we must love those around us in the way that THEY feel loved and not in the way that WE feel loved! Nothing about this mission is about me, and it never was. Yet somehow, God finds a way to bless me with even more than I had before. It's so amazing!
Hmm . . . anything else? Oh yeah! Today, our zone met together to have a Thanksgiving feast potluck! We even had turkey! The other fours sisters in our zone spent FOREVER finding a turkey (people here don't eat turkey) and preparing it along with potato salad while Sister Thompson and I spent about two minutes buying chips and baby carrots as our contribution. Ehehe. Let's hope that I'll have more motivation to cook someday!

P.S. I'm so glad that we didn't have any cheng-outs (when members invite you over to eat!) this week because last week, we were invited to a breakfast cheng-out and a dinner cheng-out in one day. MAN we felt full all day! In the morning, we went to a yam chah and then had a KFC/Pizza Hut feast. It was so good! BUT! I'm not being ungrateful or anything but just a word to the wise . . . those who like feeding missionaries in an area where missionaries are fed A LOT, please feed them normal food and don't go too crazy! Thanks! :)
